Professor Ruth Arnon and her husband Uriel have announced their upcoming contribution of a scholarship program that will begin in the 2009-10 academic year. The sum to be allocated is NIS 100,000 per year for five years.
The generous scholarships will be granted to eight individuals yearly: seven to outstanding undergraduate or graduate students in the Departments of Social Work and Biotechnology, and one to an outstanding student in any field who is receiving aid from the Support Center for Students with Learning Disabilities.
Professor Ruth Arnon is an Israel Prize winner in the field of medical sciences. She is a faculty member of the Weizmann Institute of Science and a worldwide expert in immunochemistry, pioneering the use of synthetic molecules in vaccinations. Professor Arnon developed medication that has alleviated suffering and saved the lives of people afflicted by Multiple Sclerosis around the world (while giving a major boost to Israel's pharmaceutical industry).
Tel Hai College is honored that Professor Arnon has chosen to contribute the new scholarship program to its students. This continues her longtime involvement in the College, including active membership in the Senior Academic Council and the Board of Trustees, as well as her well-deserved receipt of the Tel Hai Dignitary award.
